Culture and commerce converge in downtown Phoenix, where sports fans, theater goers, college students and convention delegates all share sun-drenched sidewalks.

The NBA's Phoenix Suns and MLB'S Arizona Diamondbacks call downtown home, as do elegant performance venues like Herberger Theater and Orpheum Theatre. Near the downtown campus of Arizona State University you'll find groovy eateries like Sens and Matt's Big Breakfast, plus gathering places like Downtown Phoenix Public Market and the new Phoenix Civic Space.

A major new addition to downtown is the Phoenix Convention Center , which houses an airy food court and tons of public art. It's located a block away from the largest hotel in Arizona.

A few blocks north of Downtown Phoenix's urban bustle is Roosevelt Row . This historic neighborhood is full of funky art studios and serves as the hub for First Friday Art Walks . Try on local fashions at Bunky Boutique, sip a cold ale at Roosevelt Tavern or gobble a gourmet cupcake at Tammie Coe Cakes.

Getting to and from downtown Phoenix's hot spots is easy, too, because METRO Light Rail runs right through the city center.

The Herberger Theater Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support and foster the growth of performing arts in Phoenix as the premier performance venue, arts incubator and advocate.

The Herberger Theater Center was conceived as a pivotal piece in the redevelopment and revitalization of downtown Phoenix. Built in 1989 to support and foster the growth of performing arts in Phoenix as a performance venue and arts incubator, the Herberger Theater Center has contributed to the cultural and educational development of the Valley. Each year, approximately 175,000 patrons, including 30,000 school-aged children share the unique experience of live performing arts.

Phoenix Convention Center:

The Phoenix Convention Center is fresh off a $600 million expansion that has transformed it into one of the largest facilities of its kind in the U.S. All told, the convention center boasts nearly 900,000 square feet of meeting and exhibit space. But size is only part of its story. Thoughtful touches include air-conditioned loading bays, exhibit halls with pre-scored floors, and outdoor meeting areas that capitalize on Phoenix's greatest natural resource — the sun.

The North Building

The four-level structure occupies a city block and boasts 635,000 square feet of meeting and exhibition space. It features a street-level ballroom, 11 exhibit halls, 56 meeting rooms and 20 climate-controlled loading docks.

Inside, thoughtful touches include exhibit halls with pre-scored floors for easy booth setup, an airy food court with five themed eateries, and outdoor meeting and pre-function areas that capitalize on Phoenix's greatest natural resource—the sun.

The North Building is linked to the neighboring West Building by both a glass-encased sky bridge and a substreet exhibition hall. It also showcases eight public-art installations and environmentally sensible features.

The West Building

The West Building houses 157,000 square feet of conference-style meeting and exhibit space. Its environs include a lecture hall, a grand ballroom and an adjoining performance center—all accentuated by a striking collection of public art.

A 90-foot-high glass atrium encases the West Building's lobby, which is ideal for large receptions. The lobby's huge glass door can be raised to create a dramatic, open-air environment.

Adjoining the lobby is the grand entrance to Symphony Hall, an elegant auditorium that seats 2,300. (Another spectacular performance space, Herberger Theater Center, is located directly across the street.)

The South Building

The South Building of the Phoenix Convention Center recently underwent an $18.5 million makeover in which no corner of the facility went untouched. Its exhibition halls, ballroom and meeting rooms have been adorned with new colors, carpet and lighting; every restroom has been remodeled; and WiFi coverage now extends to all public and rentable areas.

Over 33,000 square feet of space dedicated to this building, including 23 versatile meeting rooms and 28,000 square feet of ballroom space. The South Building also contributes to the total 143,000 square feet of exhibition space in the entire Convention Center.

Discover new designers at local boutiques . Hunt for vintage treasures - for your home or for your closet - in the Melrose District, or cruise Central. Phoenix for gems like The Willows or The French Bee . Downtown Phoenix inspires your wardrobe with Bunky Boutique and Spoken.

If you're ready to hit the high-fashion scene, Scottsdale Fashion Square has recognizable shops and high-end stores like Barney's New York, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Jimmy Choo.

If you want to mix some sunshine with your splurging, stroll the garden-park grounds of Biltmore Fashion Park or the Main Street setting of Kierland Commons , or the European style of The Borgata . If you want to pause for an occasional laser-light show or dancing-fountain display, check out Westgate City Center.

Greater Phoenix has some of the best museums , art galleries and theaters in the Southwest.

Phoenix Art Museum's 18,000 works span Rembrandt to Rockwell to Leibowitz, while Heard Museum tells the story of the Southwest's native peoples through artifacts and art.

Several cultural attractions — Desert Botanical Garden , Taliesin West , Pueblo Grande — have outdoor settings that make the most of our sunny weather. Others, such as the Children's Museum of Phoenix and Arizona Science Center , focus on hands-on fun.

Like drama? There's plenty of it in downtown Phoenix, from company-produced plays at Herberger Theatre to avant-garde performances in Roosevelt Row.

Getting around the Phoenix Metro area has never been easier. For starters, our airport is within 20-30 miles of nearly everywhere you want to go, and with our smartly designed freeway system, the longest drive is generally around 15 minutes long.

Once you're here, we want you to get around town conveniently, safely, and comfortably. Take the light rail which runs from Mesa in the east, through Tempe and the ASU area, into downtown Phoenix and north to central Phoenix. It's easy to buy tickets at any light rail stop, and you can see a map here.

Renting a car from our rental car structure at the airport is fast and easy, but if calling a taxi or car is your fancy, our drivers are on-time, knowledgeable and friendly, which is something you'll find a lot in Phoenix.
